This course will provide a review of laws and ethical standards that bear directly on the clinical practice of mental health providers. Participants will understand the difference between legal and ethical mandates, and how laws and ethics impact the
practice of psychotherapy. They will further understand their legal responsibilities in conforming their practice within legal mandates and statutes. This course builds on the experience of clinicians working in a variety of practice settings, and
addresses clinical issues related to risk management. Finally, understanding how risk management in practice requires the consistent application of legal
and ethical standards will be reviewed and applied throughout the course.
